William Allen Geffinger passed away early Friday October 16th.

Allen was born in Kenosha , Wisconsin in 1916.  Met his beloved wife during boot camp at Fort Polk in Louisiana .  Completed a tour of duty with the US Army in France during WW II.. He returned home to begin a long and successful career with Allstate Insurance Company. He was an accomplished musician playing clarinet and saxophone his entire life . Second only to music, was his love of dogs.

Allen is predeceased by his wife Linda Rose and a grandson Charles Sommo.  He is survived by his daughter Allene and her husband Ray Sommo, a granddaughter Sheryl and her husband Lee Jani, a grandson, Ray Sommo Jr.,  a granddaughter Amy and her husband Greg Nestor as well as three great grandchildren Jason,  A.J. and Raychel and his beloved dog Daisy.

A brief service will be held at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave , Point Pleasant Beach , NJ Saturday, October 24th between 4 and 6 PM .

Virginia M. Mulkeen, 59, of Pt. Pleasant Beach, passed away at her home after a short illness on Friday, October 9, 2009. 

Virginia was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and has resided in Pt. Pleasant Beach for the past 30 years. Virginia earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Moore College of Art, Philadelphia, and her Masters in Education at Jersey City State College. Virginia has been employed as an art teacher at St. Rose High School in Belmar for the last 18 years. She was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church in Pt. Pleasant Beach.

Virginia is predeceased by her parents, William J. and Margaret R. Mulkeen. She is survived by her two brothers,  Thomas G. Mulkeen, and his wife Cary, of Pt. Pleasant, and William J. Mulkeen of Mountainside; and five nieces and nephews, Katherine, Abby, Thomas, Matthew, and William.

A memorial service for Virginia will be held at St. Rose Church in Belmar, at 11:30AM, Saturday, October 24, 2009. Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home , 812 Arnold Avenue, Pt. Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements.

Albert Howard Rafter, Jr. 77, of Mantoloking , NJ died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Temple University Hospital , Philadelphia , PA.

Born in Montclair , NJ he was raised in Glen Ridge , and later moved to Mantoloking in 1963. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickenson University and served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Rafter was the owner of the Rafter Machine Company in Belleville , NJ for many years.  He was a member of the Mantoloking Fire Department and the Bay Head Yacht Club. Bert enjoyed skiing, fishing, boating, swimming at the beach and woodworking. He especially loved the New Jersey seashore area.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Thomas Rafter; a son John Rafter, Bedford , PA , two daughters Marianne Hannah and Elisabeth Bowers both of Estes Park, CO.; a sister Florence Gibson, of   Alexandria , Ohio and 5 grandchildren.

Audrey C. Mc Laughlin Briskey, 83, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick.  

She was born in Roselle Park , NJ and lived in Scotch Plains and Westfield before moving to Pt. Pleasant 15 years ago. Mrs. Briskey  graduated with a Bacheolors of Science Degree from Georgian Court College in 1948. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church , Bay Head and was a member of their Rosary Altar Society.

She is predeceased by her daughter Audrey Shive who passed away in January 2009. She is survived by her husband Thomas Briskey; her son Thomas Briskey and his wife Donna and two daughters Rose Marie Munch and her husband Robert; and Eileen Spack and her husband William, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave, Pt. Pleasant Beach.  A funeral mass will be held Friday 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church , Bay Head.  Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery , Lakewood .

Evelyn Marie Tierney Carter “Nan”, 92, of Naples, FL, passed on to meet her Savior and her loved ones on September 18, 2009. She passed peacefully in her sleep after a 2 year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on December 9th, 1916, in Bayonne, NJ,  she was preceded in death by her parents, twin sisters, brother, and her daughter Marilynn Carter Hoglund. 

Evelyn is survived by her grandsons Matthew (Katie) Hoglund of Austin, TX, Brett (Summer) Hoglund of Naples, FL, and Erik Hoglund of Naples, FL. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter Paisley Nicole Hoglund.

Evelyn was a very proud mother and grandmother.  She retired from A.B. Murray Steel in Union, NJ and moved to Point Pleasant to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was best known as “Nan” to all. Always the #1 fan in all her grandchildren’s endeavors and of the New York Mets, Nan’s smile, generosity, support, and spirit will be greatly missed.

James F. Karau, 73, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Meridian Rehabilitation Center, Brick..  

He was born in Newark , NJ and lived in Little Egg Harbor before moving to Pt.Pleasant Beach 13 years ago. Mr. Karau was a janitor for Wall High School where he worked for 27 years before retiring in 2001.  He was also known as “Candy Man”, “Janitor Jim” to his students and fellow co-workers.  He never missed a day of work, or any school or sports events. He was loved by many people, he was very giving and caring and will never be forgotten and always remembered.  He was also employed at American Can Manufacturing Company. He loved to fish on the Norma K.

Mr. Karau is predeceased by his parents Fredrick and Florence Karau. 
He is survived by his niece  Michelle Prado of Tampa , Florida .
And his very close friend Yulia Barker, Pt. Pleasant Beach .

Edward Louis Grischbowsky Age 49 of Brick, NJ, died August 31, 2009 at Jersey Shore Medical Center , Neptune , NJ

He was a Lifelong resident of Brick and an avid sports fan and Giants Football Fan

James Kenneth Meehan, 81, known all his life by family and friends as Ken, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 17,2009 at home with his family near his side.

Born in Passaic , NJ Ken lived in Bloomfield and Newark , NJ close to the Branch Brook Park of his boyhood years, he moved to Bay Head in the late seventies. Ken served his country in the Korean War from 1950-1952 in the 3rd Army Division, 15th Regiment as a combat soldier and later promoted to corporal.  He told the story of this war to many a fascinated listener.  After his return home, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for many years.

There are so many people grateful for his modest but profound knowledge of so many wonderful things.  He will be missed and loved more than words can ever say.

He was predeceased by his loving parents John and Julia Meehan.  He is survived by his loving sister Elenor M. Clarke and his loving brother John P. Meehan and sister-n-law Laurie Meehan of Toms River . ; his two devoted nieces Barbara Evans and Linda Clarke and three devoted nephews John K Meehan, Thomas Meehan and his wife Pamela; and Robert Thomas Clarke.  He also leaves five grand nieces and nephews that he cared for very much.

Minna L. Herzig,85 formerly of Point Pleasant Beach and more recently of Francis Asbury Manor, Ocean Grove died at Manor by the Sea Ocean Grove on Sunday August 9th.  

Born in Danbury , Conn. she spent her childhood in North Plainfield and Point Pleasant Beach .  She was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and Trenton State College and received her Masters Degree from Columbia University . Minna taught in Sommerville , NJ for seven years then taught the children of American U.S. Army Officers in Heidelburg , Germany for three years.  When returning to Point Pleasant Beach she taught second and third grades at the G. Harold Antrim School retiring after teaching for a total of 37 years.  She was a very active member of Central Methodist Church , Pt. Pleasant Beach for many years having served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendant, Secretary of Pt. Pleasant Beach United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir. Her love of the outdoors included camping, travel, and gardening.  

She was much loved by her family and is survived by a sister Elinor J. Bartels, of Manasquan, a brother-in-law Francis Searle , Davie , Florida and many nieces and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by her parents Anna and Peter Herzig and a sister Mary Alice Searle.

Friends may call Wednesday, August 12th  between 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Manasquan United Methodist Church , on the corner of Church and South Streets in Manasquan.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM .  Interment will be private at Hillside Cemetery , Scotch Plains , NJ

Maria (Reich) Diessner, 89, of Brick, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Ocean Medical Center. 

She was born in Passaic, NJ. She lived in Clifton prior to Brick, where she spent her summers from 1956, becoming a permanent resident in 1972. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Paterson, and Point Pleasant Hospital for many years before retiring in 1983. She was a member of Visitation Church, Brick, and a member of their Rosary Altar Society, the Community First Aid Squad Women's Auxiliary, Cape Breton Ladies Club, served for many years on the board of directors of the Cape Breton Holding Company and a member of the Save Barnegat Bay Association. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School, Passaic, NJ.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Diessner and wife Katherine of Brick; daughter, Maria Diessner-Pilipski of Passaic and Brick; son and daughter-in-law, Kurt Diessner and wife Selma of Brick; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Diessner and wife Donna of Parsippany and Brick; brother, Joseph Reich of Louisiana; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Diessner in 1968; her sisters, Rosalie Billack and Sister Cecelia De St. Joseph of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Geraldine E. Sparno, died Wednesday, August 5th at her residence in Pt. Pleasant Boro.

She was born in Old Forge, PA; lived in Brick before moving to Pt.Pleasant 5 years ago. Mrs. Sparno graduated from Brookdale Community College where she received her nursing degree. She was an RN for 20 years at Community Medical Center , Toms River working in the Dialysis Unit.  She also worked as an RN in the Renal Institute in Toms River , and she was very proud of being a vascular access clinician for Ocean Renal Associates, in Brick where she worked for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband Alfonse on February 17th, 2004 whom she was married to for 41 years. She was also predeceased by her sister Patricia Attalla.
She is survived by a son Michael Sparno and his wife Janet of Pt. Pleasant; a daughter, Lisa Chesney of Brick; a sister Dolores Conklin of Maryland; and 4 grandchildren; Nicole Marie Sparno, Jessica Ellen Sparno, Rebecca Elizabeth Chesney, and James Michael Chesney.

Barbara L. Barba died Tuesday, July 28th at  her residence in Lakewood .

She was born in Montclair , NJ and lived in Toms River before moving to Lakewood 15 years ago. She was a real estate broker for Weichert Realtors, Inc. in Toms River for 35 years retiring in 2005.

She is survived by two daughters Dr. Theresa Fortier and her husband Robert of Brentwood , New Hampshire , and Cynthia Kraft and her husband Steven of Brick;her mother Vincenza Domenic of Lakewood ; her brother Salvatore Domenic and his wife Virginia of Lakewood, and loving grandmother of Nicolas Kraft.

Charles J. Critides died July 15th at Hoag Hospital in New Port Beach , California . 

He was born in Constantinople , Turkey and lived in Point Pleasant area before moving to Huntington Beach , California 5 years ago. He owned Marty’s and Phil’s Diner in Paterson , NJ .

He was predeceased by his wife Ann Linardakis  Critides in 1999.
He is survived by his son Byron Critides and his wife Shawnee of Huntington Beach, California. Two brothers Barry Critides of North Bergen and Leo Critides of Hoboken ; 2 granddaughters Alexis Phelps and Elani Critides.

Edward “Dugan “ Sommers , 79, died Monday, July 20th at Ocean Medical Center , Brick.  

He was born in North Wildwood, NJ and  lived in Point Pleasant Beach for 60 of his 79 years. He attended Pt. Pleasant Beach grammar school and High School where in his junior and senior years he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball.  He played  End on the 1947 Central Jersey Championship Football Team having lost only one game. After High School he became interested in  Little League Baseball, he was one of the first four managers when the League in Pt. Pleasant first formed in 1952, where he worked for 16 years as manager, field maintenance and president of the Pt. Pleasant Beach Little League.  He was also a member of the Red Bank Elks #233 and the Point Pleasant Beach Elks #1698.  He was Assistant District Administrator for the Ocean County Little League..

Mr. Sommers is survived by two daughters Kathleen Sommers and her husband Edward Kerekes, Jr. of Ewing , NJ and Susan Skeans and her husband James of Clarksburg, NJ.  A brother Roger O’Kane and his wife Betty of Surf City, NJ.

Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 PM at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home,  812 Arnold Ave , Pt. Pleasant Beach , NJ .  A funeral service will be held Thursday evening at 6:00 PM .  The family will meet Friday morning 10:00AM  for the procession to St. Catherine’s Mausoleum in Wall Twp.

Reginald Paul Picard, 83, of Richmond , VA. died July 1, 2009 at Claremont Care Center , Pt. Pleasant.

He was born in Marieville , Quebec Canada , lived in Passaic , NJ before moving to Richmond 22 years ago.  He was a member of St. Augustine RC Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Richmond , VA. He was a plant manager for American Leather for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife Lucille Brosseau Picard in 2008.
He is survived by his son Daniel Picard and his wife Karen of Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ; his daughter Brigette Picard of Charlotte , NC ; his sister Francine Picard of Canada ,; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Forrest and Rachel and a great granddaughter Madison.

Cremation was private.

Donald Thomas Fioretti, “Coach Fio” left this earth to begin his spiritual journey on the morning of July 9th, following a full and active life.  

Don was committed to his family, the sports teams he coached, and the students he taught for so many years at Point Pleasant Beach High School .  The values he believed in and lived by, those of honesty hard work, dedication, discipline, and a positive mental attitude, live on in the hundreds of students and athletes he mentored through the years.  He believed there was no better way to teach , than by example.  Former colleagues, students and players continued to seek his guidance and friendship, long after their days at school or on the playing field were done, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Don moved to Point Pleasant from Union, NJ in the 1950’s and was a 1958 graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, having earned All Shore status in Football.  He pursued a career in teaching, graduating from Concorde College , WV in 1969.  He fulfilled a lifelong ambition by returning to the Home of the Garnet Gulls in a career that spanned 35 years as Phys Ed and Health Teacher, Athletic Director and Coach.  Don saw a combined 22 years on the football sidelines as Assistant and Head Coach, 17 years of coaching on the Baseball field , and 5 years rebuilding the wrestling program into a successful winter sport at the Beach.  He coached his teams to division titles in football during the 1978 season and in baseball during the spring of 1983.  That same year, Don was named the WOBM All County Team Coach of the Year and the Daily News New Jersey High School Coach of the Year for which he was honored at Yankee Stadium.  In 1990, Don was honored by the Shore Conference with the Gold Lifetime Pass in recognition of his contribution to High School Sports.  A year later he was named the Point Pleasant Beach High School Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award Winner.

For the past 37 years Don managed the day-to day operations at Bay Head beach for the Bay Head Improvement Association and continued in this capacity throughout his retirement years.  Punctuality was a cornerstone of his daily life.  Even in retirement , Coach Fio maintained a steady pace with long bicycle hikes in the early morning with Barbara, 1000 miles was just the initial goal. Travel to Vermont , Florida , North Carolina , Cape May , and always on the move.  Don supported all the teams, all the time, but was never more proud than when he could cheer on his grandchildren, whom he loved very much.  His physical presence will be missed but his legacy will endure.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Catherine Fioretti.  Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Barbara Green Fioretti ; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sabrina, Mark and Angela, and Bruce and Kathy, all of Point Pleasant Beach, his loving grandchildren , Zachary, Taylor, Victoria, Jenna, Jake, and Kayla; his dear family members Jean Green of New Providence, Dorothy Hatch of Point Pleasant , Betty Clayton of Pt. Pleasant Beach, and George and Nancy Miksis of Pt.Pleasant Beach ; many nieces and nephews; as well as countless friends and former students.

Visitation will be Sunday 1-4 and 6-9 PM at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave. Pt. Pleasant Beach.  A funeral mass will be held Monday  11:00AM at St. Peter Church, Pt. Emily Louise Day, 95, of Pt. Pleasant died Saturday, June 20,2009 at Meridian Hospice, Brick.  

She was born in Sidney , NY , lived in Belmar and Wall before moving to Pt. Pleasant 40 years ago. She was a registered nurse for many years for Jersey Shore Medical Center , Neptune before retiring in 1984.

She was predeceased by her husband George James Day in 1969.
and her son Peter Day in 2007.
She is survived by two sons Christopher Day & his wife Jayne of South Salem, NY and Thomas Day & his wife Daryl of Pt. Pleasant Beach ;  a sister Katherine Thomas of Cincinnati , Ohio .; her daughter-in-law  Marjorie Day of Conneticut, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The family will hold a memorial gathering at a later date.

Renato “Ray” Noe, 87, of Point Pleasant and formerly Union City, NJ,   passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, June 4th.  

He was born in Italy on December 14th.  At the age of 19 Ray was drafted into the Italian army and became a Major in the Mountaineer troops called “Alpini”.  He fought the fascists and Nazis in northern Italy with the underground partisan troops.   After the war, Ray attended the University of Turin on scholarship earning a doctorate of letters degree with concentration in History and Latin. That was no small accomplishment since he completed his grammar and high school studies on his own at home.  After college, Ray was hired by an Italian wine company and sent to the United States as a marketing representative with his new bride Angiola.  Ray left the wine business and started taking courses at Newark College of Engineering in Mechanical engineering.  He eventually went to work at Public Service Electric & Gas Co. where he retired as a senior staff engineer in 1986.  In 1976, he co-founded Powerfect, Inc. an engineering firm in Brick, New Jersey .  He received 13 patents and was named New Jersey Inventor of the Year “1990”.  Ray with his liberal arts background, engineering expertise, knowledge of several languages including Latin and Greek , and interests such as philosophy and economics is what  some would call a Renaissance man.  

Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Angiola , his daughter and son-in-law Mary Jane and Dennis Luddy, his son Larry Noe, (6) grandchildren Amy , Eric, Sean, Chris, Jessica, Timmy and (2) great grandchildren, Andrew & Tyler.   Ray is predeceased by his brother Angelo and sister, Emma, and survived by his brother Giuliano and Sister Carla, all in Italy .

Visitation will be Sunday, June 7th 2-6 P.M. at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant, NJ . Funeral Mass will be at St. Martha’s church, Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant on Monday, June 8th at 9:30 a.m and committal to follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls

Joseph N. Guide, 91, of Toms River , died Tuesday, May 19th at Van Dyke Hospice, in Community Medical Center , Toms River .    

He was born in New York , lived in Wayne , NJ and  Pt. Pleasant for 31 years before moving to Toms River 3 years ago Mr. Guide was in the Army during WWII .He was an explosives expert for DuPont, Wayne , NJ for many years 

Mr. Guide was predeceased by his wife Anna Oldham Guide in 2006; his son Joseph C. Guide in 2004; and his  daughter-in-law Sandra in 2005; and his grandson Bryan J. Guide in 2005. 
He is survived by his granddaughter and her husband Michele and Roger Trenkle.; and a nephew John Ferraro; Los Angeles , California .

Patrick  J.  Devenny Age 98 of Point Pleasant Beach , died at Ocean Medical Center in Brick on May 26th

He was a farmer in Scotland for many years who retired many years ago. Born in Ireland he lived in Scotland and Bayonne before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 40 Years ago. He was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pt. Pleasant Beach.

Arthur J. Strickland, Jr. 83, a lifelong resident of Bay Head, died Saturday, May 23rd at Alcoeur Gardens, Matawan, NJ .

Mr. Strickland graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1942 and immediately enlisted in the Army Air Force where he served his country as a bombardier on B-17’s and B-29’s  after WWII he devoted most of his life to building homes and developing commercial properties in Bay Head.

Arthur is predeceased by his parents Arthur J. Strickland Sr., and Helena Leman Strickland; and his only sister Renee S. Kapp of Mantoloking, NJ
He is survived by his brother Gerald C. Strickland of Sunset Beach , North Carolina , Susan Trubee of Annapolis, MD ; nephews Robert Kapp Jr., Greg Kapp and Scott Strickland. Nieces Claudia Horne and Jeannette Daum.

A graveside service will be held Thursday May 28th at 10:30 AM at Greenwood Cemetery , Brielle , NJ .

John J. Prudente, Jr. on May 22, 2009 moved forward and continued his life’s journey after a courageous battle with leukemia.

John was born in Hoboken , NJ on August 26, 1936 to Nancy and John Prudente.  He began his life-long love of the accordian when he was nine years old.  During and after his 35 year career with AT&T he played his accordian in house bands in New Jerey and for special occasions all over Greensboro since 1975.

Everyone who met John  loved him, but no more than his family.  John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rose, and his children John Prudente, III and wife Anne of Greensboro and Nancy Henderson and husband Jack of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ grandchildren, John IV and wife Natalie, Michael and Evan Prudente of Greensboro and Drew and Olivia Henderson of Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ  He is also survived by his brothers Ernest Prudente of Hoboken, NJ; Anthony Prudente of Willingboro, NJ;and special sister-in-law Gloria Colombo; many special nieces and fellow HiLiter, Gino Marco.

Frank Duvak, 81 of Pt. Pleasant died Monday, May 18, 2009 , at Claremont Care Center , Pt. Pleasant.  

He was born in Woodbridge , NJ and lived in Fords for 45 years before moving to Pt. Pleasant 5 years ago. Mr. Duvak was in the Army during WW II. He was a first class machinist for General Dynamics, Avenel , NJ and for Thul Machine,   Plainfield . He was a member of the VFW, in Pt. Pleasant Beach Post # 4715

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Margaret Piosko Duvak; his daughter and son-in-law Diane M.  and Roger Canary of Point Pleasant ; and his grandson Ryan Canary.

Jean Rogers , 86, died Wednesday, May 13th at Claremont Care Center , Pt. Pleasant.  

She was born in Belleville , NJ and lived in Rockport, Massachusetts for over 40 years before moving to Lakewood 2 years ago. She was a chemist for Polaroid in Massachusetts for many years, retiring several years ago. She was a communicant of St. Peter’s RC Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach .

She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Viola Rogers.  She is also predeceased by her companion of over 40 years, Carol Fitz of Massachusetts, with whom she had many adventures  traveling, skiing, mountain climbing, and hiking

She is survived by her brother Donald Rogers of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, 3 nephews, 3 grand nieces and 1 great nephew.  She is also  survived by her extended family with Carol which includes 10 grandchildren.

Dolores Lorraine Parente Roemer, dedicated wife, mother and daughter, passed away peacefully Sunday at home in Howell, surrounded by her loving family.  

She was born in Jersey City and lived in Ridgefield Park for many years prior to moving to Howell. Mrs. Roemer attended Grace Down’s Modeling School and the John Powers School in New York City . She was employed several years as a model.  At one time she held the title of Miss Jersey City.  Mrs. Roemer was also a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University . Mrs. Roemer was happiest when she was with her family. She was predeceased by her parents Fred Klipple in 1978, and Adeline Klipple (nee’ Parente) in 1993. She was also predeceased by her husband, Ronald Roemer, in 1984.

She is survived by her son Ronald Roemer of Howell; two daughters Cynthia Roemer of Howell, and Kymberli Roemer of Jackson; her sister Marjorie Paulmann of Stockbridge, Mass.  And she was “Grandma” to her family of four-legged fur babies.

Alice Morris Gougeon, died Sunday , April 26, 2009 at the Arbors Assisted Living in Spring Lake Heights.  

She was born in Jersey City and lived in Stone Harbor , NJ and Stuart, Fla. before moving to Spring Lake Heights. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided to our mother by Daiva Liaukeviciene, her caregiver of several years whom we consider a  member of our family.

She was predeceased by her husband John H. “Jack” Gougeon October 24,2006.

Joseph Ambrosio Jr., 73, of Pt. Pleasant Beach   died Tuesday, April 21,2009 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick.  

He was born in Jersey City , NJ , lived in Toms River before moving to Pt. Pleasant Beach 2 years ago. He worked as a fireman for the Jersey City Fire Department for 25 years before retiring in 1991.

Mr. Ambrosio was predeceased by his parents Giuseppi and Irma Ambrosio.
He was also predeceased by his brother Silvio Ambrosio in 1981.
He is survived by two daughters Tina Ambrosio of Forked River, NJ and Mandy Ambrosio of Boulder, Colorado; two sisters; Theresa Reinhardt of Toms River and Phyllis Zampetti of Neptune, NJ; three grandchildren; Dillon, Justin and Caitlin; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jean La Vecchio died Friday at Care One Nursing Home, Wall Twp.  

She was born in Englewood, NJ and lived in Tenafly before moving to Bay Head 22 years ago.  She was the owner of Anton’s Interior Designers in Tenafly for many years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head and a member of the Lucky 7 Club in Bay Head.

Mrs. La Vecchio was predeceased by her parents John and Carmella Russo.
Her husband Anthony La Vecchio predeceased her in 1997.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Carbone and her husband Rory of Bay Head; a brother John Russo and his wife Linda of River Vale, NJ; five sisters; Rose Duffy of Bellville, NJ; Josephine Gazzale of Tinton Falls; Ellena Di Cicco; Frances Cuccurullo, and Carmella Galvin  and her husband James; all of Manchester, NJ. Her granddaughter Tagen Blane Carbone and her fiancé Brian Jacobus of Bay Head; and her grandson Devan Anton Carbone of Bay Head.  She is also survived by many many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Janet Elizabeth Beaton,  77  of Pt. Pleasant died Saturday at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.  She was born in Neptune and was a lifetime resident of Bay Head and Pt. Pleasant area.

Mrs. Beaton was a member of the Meteconk River Yacht Club since 1965. Her favorite past time was sailing and  racing boats with her husband.  She was also an avid reader and also loved the beach.

Mrs. Beaton was predeceased by her daughter Catherine Hartwyk in 2008 and her sister Priscilla Beaton in 2007.
She is survived by her husband Edward (Ted) Beaton,  her son and daughter-in law Mark and Sharpe of Pt. Pleasant Beach. Two daughters Sandy Frank and her husband Dickie of Calabash, North Carolina and Debby Matthews and her husband Steve, of Beaufort,NC , her son-in-law Doug Hartwyk of Pt. Pleasant.  5 grandchildren Amy, Kate, Sarah, Brian and Rachel and her great grandson Charlie. She is also survived by sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

John Joseph Locklin, 86 of the Herbertsville Section of Brick, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the Ocean Medical Center Hospice Care in Brick, NJ.  

Born in Manasquan, NJ he was a lifelong shore area resident, growing up in Herbertsville, where he was a junior member then adult member of Herbertsville Fire CompanyNo.1. He was a WW II veteran entering the US Navy Armed Guard in 1943, where he served as a gunner’s mate aboard the Liberty Ships USS Elias Boudinot, USS Franklin  P. Mall, and USS Pierre Soule in the European and Atlantic Theaters and received an honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Locklin  worked most of his life as an automotive mechanic, retiring in 1989 from Brick Township Schools after 20 years in the Transportation Department. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 8867 and American Legion post NO. 348 and the USN Armed Guard WW II Veterans, South Jersey Pinelands Unit.  He greatly enjoyed his huge collection of Lionel and other model trains and the large layout he built himself.  Mr. Locklin also enjoyed celebrating special events with his entire family around him!

Predeceased by his parents, Daniel Joseph Locklin and Emma Love Locklin, Mr. Locklin is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Eugenia F. Locklin ( nee Lesniak), two sons, John L. Locklin and wife Carol of Brick and Stewart C. Locklin & wife Ruth of Brick, five grandchildren John L.,Jr, Valerie, Karen, Clay and Kyle and one great grandchild Connor, and cousin Joseph Love and wife Nancy of Pt. Pleasant.

James Johnstone Age 83 of Pt Pleasant, NJ died April 4, 2009 at Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick, NJ

He was a Boiler Repair Mechanic for PSE&G in Trenton, NJ for 40 yrs until he retired in 1986.  Born in Harrison, NJ he lived in Kearny,NJ prior to moving to Pt. Pleasant 48 years ago. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a Seaman First Class. Member of the VFW of Brick and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church,Brick. NJ

Gregory W. Somers, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.  

He was born in Passaic, NJ and lived throughout the U.S. before moving back to Pt. Pleasant Beach 5 years ago. Greg proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, he was a graduate of Xavier University, an avid golfer and an enormous NY Giants fan.  He worked for approximately 40 years in the chemical and dye industry and retired from Sensient Technologies in 2005.  He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, and donated a portion of his time to St. Gregory’s Pantry in Pt. Pleasant Beach.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Hadley Somers, and was the loving father of his son Jeffrey Somers and his wife Ruth of Flanders, NJ, his daughter Christine Sodt and her husband Robert of Barnegat, NJ and his four grandchildren Emily, Tyler, Henry, and Matthew.  He will be missed deeply.

James V. Thompson, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2009 in Galloway, NJ. 

Jim was born in Brick, NJ where he grew up and raised his family. Jim was a proud member of the United States Army and served his country during WWII.  After the war, Jim continued working for the United States Government as a supply specialist at Fort Monmouth, NJ.  He retired after 45 years, in 1984.  Jim was an avid bowler, loved fishing and crabbing, enjoyed dining out and going to plays and shows with his wife of 53 years. Jim was also an accomplished artist.  He shared his drawings and beautiful woodcarvings of ducks with friends and family. 

Above all, Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Marian, in 2004. He was also predeceased by his brother, Joseph, and sister, Adelaide. Jim is survived by two sons, Barry Thompson of Keyport, NJ and Stephen (Karol) Thompson of Wall Twp, NJ., two daughters, Kathleen (Steven) Barton of Averill Park, NY and Barbara (Richard) Fetske of Galloway, NJ his sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Eaton of Florida, 13 beloved grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Luisa R. Cadalzo of Pt. Pleasant passed away March 19, 2009. 

She was born March 25, 1919, the daughter of Eduardo and Margarita A. Rola, in Santurce, Puerto Rico where she lived until the family moved to Somerville, NJ.  A resident of Pt. Pleasant since 1950, Mrs. Cadalzo was a bookkeeper for JCP&L in Allenhurst and Pt. Pleasant Beach for many years before retiring in 1984.  She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Pt. Pleasant Beach.  She loved her family and the NY Yankees.

Mrs. Cadalzo was predeceased by her husband Alberto Cadalzo and her brother Eduardo Rola Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Greaney of Pt. Pleasant Beach, two sons, Albert Cadalzo of New York City and Luis Cadalzo of Pt. Pleasant Beach, three brothers, Fernando Rola of New York City, Alfred Rola of Manasquan, and Charles Rola of Pt. Pleasant, 7 grandchildren, Michael, Michele, Richard and Robert Greaney, and Dylan, Brandon, and Travis Cadalzo, 8 great grandchildren, 10 nephews and nieces, and 6 great nephews and nieces.

Sandra C. Gray, 75 of Brick, died Friday March 13, 2009 at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick.  She was born in New York City, NY.  

She was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore having grown up in Bradley Beach and graduated from Asbury Park High in 1951.  She moved to Brick in 1965. She was a long time book keeper for several Motor dealerships around the Shore area including the former dealerships McGloin Buick in Shrewsberry and Mario Motors, Pt. Pleasant. Mrs. Gray was a member and Auxiliary officer of the Pt. Pleasant Beach American Legion, Post 196.

She was predeceased by her Parents, Harry and Minna Finkelstein, her husband Walter C. Gray, Sr. and a daughter, Sharon Rose Van Orden.
She is survived by three sons Harry C. Gray of Brick, Dennis P. Gray, of Jackson, Walter C. Gray, Jr. of Brick, a daughter Theresa Ann Badilla of Brick; Two sisters, Renee Morris of Toms River and Roberta Horowitz of Hamilton, NJ; And 7 grandchildren, Brandon Badilla, Gregory Badilla, Dustin Gray, Julia Gray, Elisha Van Orden, Victoria Gray, and Abigail Gray.  She is also survived by her grand “dog” Charlie Brown and three grand “cats” Mermaid, Sweet Pea and Precious.

Richard E. Reichardt, died  Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the University of New Mexico Hospital, Albequerque , New Mexico .

Mr. Reichardt was born in Wallington , NJ and lived in Point Pleasant  for many years. He was an Art Teacher for 37 years at Point Pleasant Beach High School , Point Pleasant Beach before retiring.

Mr. Reichardt  is survived by his two sons Eric W. Reichardt of Sinking Spring , PA and Richard Paul Reichardt of Florida , and a daughter Beverly Ann Reichardt of Colorado.And a grandson  Corey Creigar

John D. Toole, 89, of Pt. Pleasant Beach , died Sunday at Meridian Rehabilitation Center , Brick.  He was born in Pt.Pleasant Beach and was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Toole was an assistant manager for the Social Security Administration in Asbury Park for many years, he retired in 1978.  He graduated Pt. Pleasant Beach High School in 1938 and Rutgers University in 1942. He was in the Army during WWII he was in the Blue Devils 88th Infantry, he received Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. Mr. Toole was a communicant of St. Peter’s RC Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach where he was an usher for over 60 years, as well as a member and past president of the Holy Name Society  for 60 years, and served as treasurer of St. Peter’s P.T.A. from 1974.  He was a  life member of the B.P.O.Elks, #1698,in Pt. Pleasant Beach ,  he was a member of the Parking Authority in Pt. Pleasant Beach for over 30 years and he coached the Little League Soccer League from 1970-1973. He was also on the Committee of the Ocean County Office of the Aging and on the Advisory Committee for the Transportation of the Elderly and handicapped.   Mr. O’ Toole was a history buff.  He painted duck decoys and enjoyed attending duck decoy shows.

Mr.Toole is survived by his wife Eleanor Solia Toole, his son John Toole, Jr. of Pt. Pleasant Beach and his brother Philip C. O’Toole of Sarasota , Florida .

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Pt. Pleasant Beach.  A funeral mass will be held  Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s RC Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach .  Entombment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Wall Twp.

Mary V. Wilson , 88 entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 28,2009 at Manor by the Sea in Ocean Grove.

She was born June 11, 1920 in Bayonne , NJ .  She was raised in Pt. Pleasant, graduated from Pt. Pleasant Beach High School in 1939.  She had a home in Pt. Pleasant, moved to Brick in 1955 and onward to Wall Twp. in 1960, where she resided for 44 years.  She lived for three years in Tampa , Florida .  She enjoyed the last four years of her life with the music and exceptional caregivers at “Manor by the Sea”. She was a homemaker and a wonderful person, she walked to her own drum beat.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold B. Wilson Jr., in 1964, a brother Robert Somers in 1996 and her son, Harold B. Wilson III (Buddy) in 1999.
Surviving is a daughter Anita L. Mattox of Ocean Grove, a sister Margaret A. Burdge and her husband Anthony of Lakewood, two nieces, Diana Weber and her husband Eddie of Brick, Kathy Gilhaus and her husband Phil of Manchester and a nephew Gene Burdge of New York City .

Mary was cremated.  Her ashes will enter the earth with a graveside memorial service on March 20, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Whitelawn Cemetery , Pt. Pleasant, check for raindate .  Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave. , Pt. Pleasant Beach , is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Beck, 83 of Toms River died Wednesday at Shore Meadows Nursing Home, Toms River .

She was born in Bayonne , NJ .  She lived in Mountainside and Pt. Pleasant for many years and also held a summer home in Normandy Beach , before moving to Toms River . Mrs. Beck was a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert Beck in 1990.
She is survived by her son Robert Beck and his wife Eileen of Toms River, her daughter Patricia Wagner and her husband Chris of Scotch Plains, NJ and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave , Pt. Pleasant Beach .  A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Wall Twp.

Mother, Nanny, Sister, Aunt, dear friend, Marie Drach, 78, of Pt. Pleasant Beach died Wednesday at her residence after a long struggle with illness. 

She was born in Lyndhurst , NJ , lived in Virginia for 10 years, and Florida for 6 years before making Pt. Pleasant Beach her primary residence.

Mrs. Drach was predeceased by her husband M. John Drach in 1994.
She is survived by her son Robert Drach and his wife Angela of Middletown, NJ; two daughters,  Darlene Kasten and her husband Vincent of Fanwood, NJ, and Cheryl Talley and her husband Richard of Denver, CO;  two brothers, Arthur Tassely, of Park Ridge, NJ, and Raymond Tassely and his wife Joan of Lake George, NY;  a sister Helen Moynihan and her husband Patrick of Tarpon Springs, Florida, and seven grandchildren,  Alexander and Nicholas Kasten, Victoria and Alyssa Drach and Daniel Giammarino, and Jillian and Patrick Talley.

She rests now in peace and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Funeral Services will be private.  Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave , Pt. Pleasant Beach is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn T. Mc Adam died Saturday at the Medical Center of Ocean, Brick.  

She was born in Newark, NJ and lived in Union before moving to Pt. Pleasant Beach 15 years ago.  She was a homemaker. Mrs. Mc Adam was a communicant of St. Peter’s RC Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach. 

She was predeceased by her daughter Bridget Mc Adam.
She is survived by her husband Richard H. Mc Adam.  A son Richard J. Mc Adam and his wife Joyce of Wall, NJ.   Three daughters Deborah Biase of Berkley Heights, NJ, Patricia Mc Adam of Red Bank, NJ and Maureen Mc Adam of Pt.Pleasant Beach.  A sister Patricia Hogan of Lawrenceville, NJ.  Four grandchildren Joey, Wendy, Casey and Lily. And one great grandson Tyler.

Howard Charles Cannon, Jr. 77 of Pt. Pleasant Beach died Friday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. 

He was born in Irvington, NJ and  lived in Newark, NJ before moving to Pt.Pleasant Beach 45 years ago. He was the founder and owner of of Spring Lake Opticians, in Spring Lake, NJ , he worked there for 40 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Peter’s RC Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach, a member of the Pt. Pleasant Beach, Lions Club.  He founded the Spring Lake Live Liners Club.  He was the coach of the C.Y.O. youth basketball of St. Peter’s .  He was also an avid fisherman in Pt. Pleasant Beach and he enjoyed painting and making custom fishing rods and lures. He served in the Navy during thr Korean War.

He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Barbara Moriarty Cannon in 2007 
He is survived by two sons, Howard C. Cannon III, Missoula, Montana, Michael J. Cannon and his wife Jilys, Medford, NJ.  Four daughters, Maureen Cannon, Brielle, NJ, Patricia Lokerson & her husband Arthur, Pt. Pleasant Boro, NJ, Catherine Benedict, Pt. Pleasant Boro, and Erin Gallman, Charleston South Carolina.  A brother Robert D. Cannon and his wife Ann, Brick, NJ and Five grandchildren, Arthur Jr., Christopher , Daniel , Erica , and Austin.

Visitation will be Tuesday 3:00-5:00 PM at the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ.  A funeral mass will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s RC Church, Pt. Pleasant Beach.  Cremation will be private.

Mabel Lillian Treacy, 87, of Pt. Pleasant Boro, died Thursday, January 8, at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. 

Born in Elizabeth NJ, Mrs. Treacy was a graduate of Battin High School .  She lived in California with her husband, Army Air Corp Sgt. Gerald Treacy, during WWII.  She was a secretary for Chicago Bridge & Iron in Elizabeth , NJ before settling in Clark NJ to begin her family.  While raising her children, May served as a Deacon at Osceola Presbyterian Church in Cranford, worked at Carl H. Kumpf School in Clark, and as a floral designer for Reckemiers Florist in Cranford NJ .  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Clark Historical society.  After retiring, she became an accomplished artist and craftsperson.   The Treacys moved to Redmond WA and lived there for 20 years.  Since July 2007, they have resided in Point Pleasant.

Mabel was a very fine person and a dedicated wife and mother.  She cared for her mother-in-law, mother and brother at the end of their lives.  She babysat for all her grandchildren, and having an appreciation for the natural world and a nurturing nature, often rescued and cared for homeless animals and birds. She was a Christian in the truest sense serving God with gifts of love, understanding, patience and kindness to all around her.

She was predeceased by her parents Samuel and Mabel Nesbitt,  by her son Roger James Treacy, and a granddaughter Amy Christine Breckheisen.  She is survived by her husband Gerald B Treacy; a son, Gerald B. Treacy, Jr., of Poulsboro,WA; two daughters, Carol Elkoury of Redmond, WA, and Barbara Yantz, Pt. Pleasant Boro;  4 grandchildren, Douglas J. Turner, Belle Meade, NJ; Patricia & Joseph Elkoury of Redmond,WA; and Kate Elkoury of Kirksville, Missouri. Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren, Ryan Michael Turner, Matthew Douglas Turner, Daniel Thomas Turner, John Thomas and Nina Thomas.
